The first comic strip from Iran, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi was the revelation we know. The fall of the Shah, the Islamic revolution and exile experienced by a ten-year-old girl, who twenty years later chooses comics to deliver her story.

Very young, Marjane wanted to be a prophet. She said to herself that she could thus cure her grandmother's knee pain. In 1979, the year of his ten  years and of the Iranian revolution, she forgot God a little. She started to demonstrate in her parents' garden shouting "down with the king.  ! ". There, she imagined herself rather in Che  Guevara. It must be said that at the time, his favorite book was called  Dialectical Materialism. Marjane found moreover that Marx and God were alike. Marx was just a little more curly, that's all. Afterwards, life went on, but a lot less fun. The revolution got a little carried away. And the war against Iraq has arrived ...

In  Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi recounts her childhood against the backdrop of the history of her country, Iran. It's a funny and sad story at the same time, sometimes funny, often touching. But still exciting. It's also a small event  : this is the very first Iranian comic strip in history ...  --Gilbert Jacques
